California has been transitioning away from natural gas for space heating through a combination of regulations and incentives:

The dominant system type in Valley homes. A gas furnace handles heating; a split-system AC handles cooling. The air handler and furnace are in the attic or a closet; the condenser is outside.

Heat Pump System

In LA's mild winters, heat pumps are excellent for heating (they're most efficient when outdoor temperatures are above 35°F). In the rare Valley cold snap, a backup electric element supplements.

Ductwork Condition
